Water and Sanitation

An Introduction:

This program has been implementing with the support of Save the Children (Bal Raksha Bharat) in Delhi. The objective of this program is to increase demand of safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in the community and involve community into monitoring, maintenance and care and ownership process. NDS has constructed a 40 seater model toilet in Indra Kalyan Vihar, Okhla Industrial area. The toilet constructed with the support of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) Govt. of Delhi and Save the children. This is first it’s kind of the sanitation facility in Delhi which is being run by a group of community women. The beauty of the project is its use and accessibility to each beneficiary without any discrimination makes itself self sustained. The features of this model toilets are:

  • Bio-digester system based techniques
  • 40 seater toilet separate in two parts – male and female
  • Disable friendly toilet
  • Children friendly toilet
  • Pregnant women friendly toilet
  • Community women group based run toilet in Delhi
  • Flush Water recycle system to reuse water for cleanliness purpose
  • Drinking water facility within the premise with water ATM system
  • Floriculture and wormy compost system within the premise to involve group in livelihood program
  • Insinuator in female side to depose sanitary napkins in neat & clean manner
  • Out let of daily commodities like soap, shampoo, oil etc within the premise
  • Washing clothes, bathing and changing rooms facilities are available
